The second round of the Cavan Spring League took place in a cool but dry PeaceLink track in Clones on Sunday 5th March. While our numbers taking part were limited by a number of confirmations, a good number of athletes made the trip to take part and they were rewarded with a series of strong performances and results.

In the Under 9 boys, Oisin Tully enjoyed a strong race in the 300m event which saw him take first place. Oisin followed this up with another gold medal in the turbojavelin, where his 8.28m throw took him to first place, with Callum Rotheram in close behind in third place thanks to a throw of 7.30m.

In the under 10s, Caolan Brady and Logan Rotheram both finished second in their heats of the 60m sprint, with James Farrelly also getting through to the final after taking third in his heat. Logan went on to take the bronze medal, just ahead of his two clubmates. In the long jump, James took third place with a jump of 2.46m, just pipping Logan who leapt 2.44m in to fourth place and Caolan not far behind with a 2.19m jump.

Katie Hannan was the winner of the girls 60m sprint and went on to take the bronze medal in the long jump with a best leap of 2.44m.

The U11 girls, Kayla Smith won the turbojavelin with a 12.22m throw, with Innyvale athletes taking fifth through eighth places courtesy of Maia Reilly (8.10m), Íosa Lynch (7.98m), Zoe Tully (7.36m) and Neasa Smith (7.19m). In the 600m, Kayla finished the race in second place, while Íosa battled hard to the line to take third place.

U12 girls sprint was won by Zoe Hogan, while in the long jump, Saibhe Mulvey was fourth with a best effort of 2.47m, with Zoe in fifth (2.24m) and Kaitlin Shaw in sixth (2.08m). In the boys event, Conor Smith was sixth and Tony Rotheram seventh with a best jump of 2.24m and 1.80m each.

Saoirse Lynch won a very closely fought U13 javelin event, sending the 400m javelin out to 9.05m, just shading the second place athlete by 3cm. Saorise also won the shot putt with a throw of 4.99m.

Relay results are not available as yet, but all our athletes had the chance to take part in the 4x100m event to round off the day with most picking up a medal in this event.

Well done to all who competed and thank you to the coaches and parents for their continuing support.
