The 2019 Cavan Children's Games took place at the PeaceLink athletics track in Clones on a mild bank holiday Monday 6th May. The day featured a mix of sprints, distance running, jumps, throws and team relays for the under 9 to 13 age groups, with the club ably represented by an enthusiastic squad.
In the Under 9 events, Emer Briody took third lace in the 300m. Twins Dylan and Oisin Farrelly had a great battle with each other in the boys 300m race, with the pair crossing the line too close to separate, so the judges awarded them joint first place. Dylan also took third place in the 60m sprint. In the U9 relay, the two boys were part of the gold medal winning team.
In the Under 10s, Shonnagh Brennan took the silver medal in the turbojavelin event, with teammate Ciara O'Reilly taking the bronze. Ciara and Bethan Stokes both made it to the final of their sprint event, but just missed out in a very tight finish that saw the top five athletes cross the line almost at once. But they didn't miss out in the relay, where Bethan, Ciara, Shonnagh and Emer had a fantastic race that saw them win the gold medal.
In the Under 11 category, Gráinne Gilroy picked up a silver medal in the sprint before going on to win the turbojavelin event. Liam Briody had a strong run in the boys events, winning the sprint and taking bronze in the 600m race. The girls relay team of Gráinne, Shonnagh, Bethan and Ciara battled hard to take third place.
And in the Under 12s, Zak Farrell was third in the shot putt, quite close to the silver medalist. The U12 relay team of Keelan Gilroy, Zak Farrell, Liam Briody and Gráinne Gilory took fourth place.
Well done to all who took part, we hope you had a great time. Photos from the day can be found on our Flickr gallery (https://www.flickr.com/photos/162692233@N06/albums/72157704972086622" target="_blank">click here).

Innyvale has been invited to return to training in Kilnaleck and the feedback we have received has been positive on this. We will be training in the GAA grounds in Kilnaleck from next Tuesday 16th April at 6pm and will see how it goes over the next few weeks before making any final decisions.
Anyone who is attending training must be registered for insurance purposes. While our insurance allows new athletes 2 weeks to try out training, if your child is not registered after this they are not covered by our insurance in the event of an accident. Therefore we ask that anyone who has not already done so please collect a registration form from Simon at training. Registration costs €15 per child. Max of €50 per family.

Cavan County Board held its Athletics Awards for 2016 and 2017 in the Kilmore Hotel on Friday 30th November and a number of Innyvale AC athletes were nominated for awards in various categories. The awards are given based on results of county Cavan competitions and are split between Under 12-15 and U16-18 age categories with awards in sprints, throws, distance running, cross country and jumps, with points awarded for each event in which an athlete won a medal in a particular category. Just being nominated is an honour but several of our members won their category and were presented with their trophies by Cavan's most famous athlete Catriona McKiernan who was guest speaker on the night providing some excellent inspiration for the next generation of Cavan athletes.
A cross country category was introduced for the first time this year and Ciara Smith was one of the first recipients of the award for her winning form in the U16-18 category, having won the gold medal in the U18 girls 4,000m cross country race in 2016. Jordan Brady was the winner of the 2016 throws category for U16-18 boys, having won gold in the shot putt at both the Spring League and Track & Field Championships, as well as a silver medal in the javelin. Caolan Collins won the award for U12-15s throws in 2016 with gold medals in the shot putt in the Spring League and Track & Field.
Alanna Brady also picked up a trophy for the throws category, winning the U12-15 girls event for 2016. Alanna won the gold medal in the javelin at the Track & Field Championships as well as silver in the shot putt at both the Spring League and Track & Field. Simon Nulty was presented with a special recognition award in honour of his work at club and county board through the years. Fiona Finnegan won the club's fourth throws award of the evening for her gold medal in the turbojavelin and silver in the shot putt events at the Cavan Track and Field Championships in 2017.
And last but not least, having been nominated in numerous categories earlier in the event, the final trophy of the night went to Eadaoin Galligan for her successes in the sprints during 2017. Eadaoin won the 300m and took silver in the 100m at the Track & Field Championships.
Congratulations also to our other nominees Ava Collins (nominated twice), Hazel, Warren and Casey Mulvey and Oisin Kiernan. Well done to one and all and we are sure there is a very bright future ahead of you all. Also a huge thank you to all the parents for bring their children to competitions and training and also to the coaches for their huge contribution at training and behind the scenes.
